Join the campaign to support small shops and local businesses!
The team behind Beckenham Together, are calling on all residents to spread a little love in the high streets this March.
Just last year, Beckenham businesses voted for YES in the Business Improvement District (BID) ballot, which essentially allows local business owners to have a greater say in how the town centre is managed.
The BID comes at a most welcome time when traditional local high streets are changing. Many small business owners face rising business rates and rents, while high car parking charges have added to the woe.
Independent high street businesses are vital to the health of town centres and it is therefore hard to ignore the effects of a decreased footfall which jeopardises local business and town economy.
Fortunately, plans are already well under way to get Beckenham back on track and the BID, entitled Beckenham Together, is set to invest £940,000 into the town as it works towards achieving its goal of ‘making sure Beckenham is an inspiring, attractive and safe place to visit, work and live.’
Beckenham Together is now urging all residents to embrace the campaign and spread the love by asking ‘What do you love about your town?’
The team behind the BID want Beckenham residents to submit images that capture their favourite places in town.
Is it your picturesque walk into work? Your favourite coffee shop, bar, restaurant or shop? Do you have a favourite place in town where you take your lunch? It could be your own little quiet spot where you gather your thoughts, or even the hustle and bustle of the town centre. It can be anything you love about the town.
Commenting on the campaign, BID manager Zoe Brown, said: “Beckenham is such a beautiful place. It has so many amazing people, places, communities and groups which makes it such a great town to live in.
“The Love Beckenham campaign is the perfect opportunity to celebrate community life at its best and I’m excited to see the photos and find out what everyone loves about their town.
We are planning on using a selection of the submitted photos to create a brilliant Beckenham calendar for next year as well as putting them onto canvases which will be displayed in various shops throughout the town. I can’t wait!”
If you submit a picture then you are entitled to pick up a free Love Beckenham branded Tote bag or Lapel pin, which are available for collection at Beckenham Bookshop, Burger & Bubbles, Ollie and Dollie and Three Hounds Beer Co. Get your entries in soon, as once they’re gone, they’re gone!
To submit your photos on social media simply tag the Beckenham Together accounts on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (@BeckTogether) using #LoveBeckenham. Alternatively, you can email them to hello@beckenhamtogether.co.uk
You will be asked to provide evidence that images are your own.
